Michael Escoto gets life behind bars for murdering wife after four days of marriage

It took 12 years, but justice was finally served for the family of Wendy Trapaga when a “guilty” verdict was handed down to Michael Escoto in a Miami-Dade courtroom. The crime happened in October 2002 when after just four days of marriage, Escoto killed his new bride to receive a $1 million insurance benefit.

Escoto’s ex-girlfriend, Yolanda Cerrillo, helped him plan the murder, but in the end she made a deal to testify for the prosecution in exchange for immunity.

By law he must serve life behind bars on the first-degree murder conviction.

Escoto convicted in murder of new bride for life insurance money, from the Miami Herald.
